Our client, a major Global Biopharma Manufacturer, is one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies. Founded in 1885 and headquartered in Germany, the company researches, develops, manufactures and markets new medications of high therapeutic value for human and veterinary medicine. C&W Services oversees the clients’ facilities maintenance in California, Missouri, Connecticut and Ohio.

Challenge

The California site is a 24/7 manufacturing facility with specialized systems, such as its MECO vapor compression distillation system, which it lacked on-site expertise to manage. Flying specialized technicians to the site from other locations in Texas and Louisiana was cost-prohibitive and often negatively affected production due to travel time. This ineffective method would cause downtime of up 2 to 3 weeks per incident.

Solution

C&W Services proposed to send their top technicians at the site to MECO Headquarters for training. Technicians spent one week at MECO Headquarters to learn how to properly maintain the stills, perform preventative maintenance on the system, and serve as first responders in providing real time trouble shooting.

The Results

  • C&W Services technicians now serve as subject matter experts (SME) for the MECO stills. Over the past 6 years, there has been an average yearly cost savings of $40,000 for a total savings of $240,000.
  • Minimizing the downtime of the stills by having onsite SMEs benefits the client not only monetarily but also from a customer service perspective by increasing their ability to deliver product on time.
