Tackling the toughest challenges in facilities.

Because of the fast-paced nature of our work, it can be difficult to keep up with all of the new practices and innovations. To remedy this, we launched our Innovation & Insights newsletter. Each volume focuses on one of the six “Super Challenges’ outlined by the International Facility Management Association and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in their article Raising the Bar.

The first issue of our newsletter looked at budging and cost management, and the second issue delved into organizational factors.

Volume 3 is available for download.

The third volume tackles the trade skills gap.

As reported by Pew Research Center, about 10,000 baby boomers are retiring every day. Assuming that boomers are represented in the facilities field at about the same ratio as the general labor pool, this means that about 1.06 million people in vital facilities roles will be retiring over the course of the next decade or so, and these roles aren’t easy to fill. Most of them require some kind of vocational training. So, to grow our skilled labor force, we’re investing in our apprenticeship program.
