Meet David.

Like many people in the facilities management industry, David didn’t immediately know that a career in the field was right for him. He joined the Navy out of high school—his grandfather and all of his uncles had served—and he enjoyed the experience.

“I got to see the world,” he says. “I loved looking out at the ocean, nothing around but miles and miles of water. You never knew what you were going to see. I saw dolphins, fog like you wouldn’t believe, venomous sea snakes. It was a blast.”

After two years in the Navy, David began to wonder about what was next. He moved back to Massachusetts, met his wife, and worked a series of jobs from truck driver to private security guard to sand blaster. However, once he became a father he began to look for a career that was a little easier on his body.

“Facilities is hard work,” he says. “You’re on your feet for a lot of the day. But it’s much better than some of the other jobs I’ve had. I feel good here.”

David brings excellent insights and best practices to the janitorial services at a college campus.

Sticking to a schedule.

David arrives at the client site where he works at 5:50 A.M., punches in, and immediately gets to work.

“The morning can easily be my busiest time,” he says. “I check the clipboard, load up my buggy, and begin doing my rounds around campus. By the time the sun is up I’ve picked up trash around the garage, the football field, the soccer field, the baseball field, and the outer grounds.”

David and a teammate work to beautify a large college campus.

David believes that his experience in the Navy helped him succeed in his current role. “I learned how to stick to a tight schedule, how to be a true team player. We’re all pretty close here, and the work just couldn’t get done if we weren’t working as a team.”
